Cloward H2O Discusses Engineering Safe Surf Environments

Maintaining high water quality ensures that surf parks remain safe for users. Poor water quality can lead to various health issues, from skin infections to more severe illnesses caused by harmful bacteria or chemicals. It is essential for surf parks to invest in advanced water filtration and treatment technologies to keep the water clear for visibility and free from harmful bacteria.

“Ozone-based systems neutralize bacteria, viruses, and other pathogens without leaving harmful by-products. In addition, continuous water quality monitoring ensures that water remains within safe parameters throughout the day,” says Steiner.

Cloward H2O Shares the Art & Science of Aquarium Design

Aquariums have become important cultural spaces, combining public engagement with research and conservation. Behind the scenes, a wide range of systems work together to maintain healthy, stable aquatic environments. Biofiltration and ozonation, which involve biological and chemical processes, help maintain a stable, safe environment for marine life. Simultaneously, the ALSS must be able to quickly detoxify or neutralise contaminants in situ—using chemical filtration media, activated carbon, protein skimmers, and ozone injection systems to stabilise the environment without a complete drain.

Cloward H2O Discusses Secondary Disinfection Systems

The Model Aquatic Health Code (MAHC) outlines the importance of secondary disinfection systems and recommends two technologies: ozone and UV.  Ozone is the most effective oxidizer and sanitizer that is safe to use for both humans and aquatic life. It is used within the aquarium industry and Aquatic Animal Life Support Systems (LSS), in conditions which are similar to those in commercial swimming pools and waterparks.  Because of its significant oxidation properties, ozone also plays a vital role in reducing organic load levels. It improves water clarity by binding smaller contaminants into larger, filterable byproducts.

Why Veteran Pool Builder Marco Perrella is All-In on Ozone

“I had a traditional setup and a small UV system,” he explained. “I put that ozone on and it was a complete game changer. There was absolutely no chlorine smell at all. I said, ‘Oh my gosh, look at this water,’” recounted Perrella. He suddenly found himself using his spa nightly. He joked with friends that he was going out for his “COVID cleanse” in the spa, but behind the humor was a serious realization. “I would just get in and the feel of the water, the clarity… it was another level.” He had seen enough. “That’s when I decided I was all in,” he said. He began specifying ozone on new projects and offering it as a key differentiator in his builds. It quickly became integral to what he considered a truly finished, high-end pool.
